The Lion & The Unicorn (OPEN NOW)

Address: Upper-Ground Floor, The Sidings, Waterloo station, London, SE1 7BH

Wetherspoon opened a new pub on Tuesday 3 September in Waterloo station, with the creation of 70 jobs. The pub will be called The Lion & The Unicorn. In 1951’s Festival of Britain, more than 8,000,000 people paid to see the ultra-modern Dome of Discovery (then the world’s largest dome), the 90-metre Skylon tower and The Lion and The Unicorn Pavilion, from where the new pub takes its name.

The Lion & The Unicorn pub will be open: Sunday – Thursday, 7.30am – midnight; Friday and Saturday, 7.30am – 1am

Breakfast will be served from 7.30am daily, with food available throughout the day, until 11pm every day. Free refills are available on coffee, tea and hot chocolate, at £1.56 each. On the move? Take-away cups are available for any hot drink.

On tap, a range of craft beers includes Signature Roadie (a hazy IPA), Anspach & Hobday London Black (a stout), Mad Squirrel Big Sea (a west coast IPA) and Portobello Notting Helles (a lager).

To celebrate the opening, the pub will hold a beer festival (Tue – Sun, 3 – 15 September), including a range of cask beers, keg beers and craft cans from London and the surrounding area.

The Grand Assembly (Tue 24 September)

Address: 2–3 Market Square, Marlow, Buckinghamshire, SL7 3HH

Wetherspoon is to open a new pub on Tuesday 24 September in Marlow. The pub will be called The Grand Assembly.

The name of this J D Wetherspoon has been chosen to remember the ‘grand assemblies’ which were held in the former market house, situated next door. The market house was built in 1807, replacing a much older dilapidated wooden structure. The market itself occupied the open ground-floor area, with a fine assembly room above. It had a balcony and three large windows looking down High Street. Marlow’s ‘grand assemblies’ were held in the room, remaining a venue for public meetings and entertainment into the 1960s.

The pub will be open: Sunday – Thursday, 8am – midnight; Friday and Saturday, 8am – 1am

With food served until 11pm, it’s a good chance to try the food menu, including burgers, pizzas and a range of small plates. The pub will be open throughout the week for family dining, with children (accompanied by an adult) welcome in the pub until 9pm.
